They review the results of the DANFLU-1 study, which compared high-dose and standard-dose influenza vaccines, and look ahead to the DANFLU-2 study, expected to provide more definitive answers. The discussion also highlights the broader benefits of influenza vaccination, including the reduction of cardiovascular and renal complications in high-risk patients. The study is published in JACC, and the video relates to findings presented at the ESC Congress in London 2024.

DANFLU-1: High-dose vs. standard-dose influenza vaccines in adults aged 65–79 years

Tor Biering-Sørensen speaks with Aaysha Cader about the results of the DANFLU-1 study, presented at the ESC Congress 2022 in Barcelona. The findings showed that older adults who received a high-dose influenza vaccine, compared with a standard-dose, experienced a significantly reduced risk of death and hospitalization from influenza or pneumonia.

In this video, Tor Biering-Sørensen summarizes the results of the DANFLU-1 study. The study tested the possibility of embedding an individually randomized trial into routine influenza vaccination practice and using Danish health registries to collect baseline, outcome, and safety data for standard- and high-dose vaccines in older adults.
