PHOENIX is an interdisciplinary research center based at Gentofte Hospital, dedicated to clinical, patient-centered, and translational research. The center aims to translate evidence-based knowledge into improved diagnostics, treatment, and patient care through high-quality research, education, and strong interdisciplinary collaboration.

To create measurable improvements in patient care by combining clinical expertise,
methodological rigor and strong collaborations across specialties and sectors.

PHOENIX works primarily within the following core areas both nationally and internationally:

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS)

  • Disease burden, treatment and patient journey
  • Global epidemiology, using both registry data and actual studies
  • Personalized medicine with a focus on predicting disease progression.

Mycology

  1. Clinical and translational research in fungal infections
  • Resistance mapping, focusing on antifungal resistance and clinical consequences
  • Global epidemiology, using registry data and international collaborations.

In addition, the center works with cross-cutting methodological tracks such as clinical research, clinimetry, epidemiology, implementation research and patient-reported outcomes with the aim of strengthening coherent and evidence-based care pathways.

PHOENIX works closely with hospitals, universities, patient organizations, and industry partners at both national and international levels. These collaborations are built on formal agreements, shared objectives, and strong professional integrity. PHOENIX leads the Global Hidradenitis Suppurativa Atlas (GHiSA) in collaboration with International League of Dermatological Societies and the World Health Organization. Learn more about GHiSA and its international research efforts at: https://www.ghisa.org

The center contributes to the education of medical students (bachelor and master's students), PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers through:

  • Courses and workshops
  • Guidance and mentoring.

Research activities are funded through a combination of public and private grants, as well as collaborations with industry partners.
