I stayed for 6 months at the Diabetes Research Division at Gentofte Hospital as part of my research internship, a mandatory course in medical schools in the Netherlands. As a student I was looking for a first-class laboratory with a lot of research going on, so there was a lot to be seen and learnt. I wouldn't be on my own since there are at least 10 PhD students employed at the department. It turned out to be an excellent choice, and they even helped me to obtain some funding for my internship. Everybody showed me their projects, helped me understand difficult physiology and even taught me the clinical skills to run my own future projects individually. For all prospective students that are reading this, don't hesitate to contact the department if you are interested to do some research. You don't have to be the next Einstein!
